“A Gift for a Child”

My vision of Christmas is joyful

But I sometimes miss the mark.

If all I do is party,

Could I be in the dark?

I must wake up to see

truth this Holiday

And why it is often said

It’s beauty is in the Christian way

Heaven gave us a much-needed gift

That we all can clearly see

A gift so precious, sent with love

Designed to set us free.

I think of children who are alone

And knowing they will grieve

When gifts are finally given but

These children will not receive.

I envision a needy child

Without a family

And tears begin to fall

Could that be you? Could that be me?

Let’s open our generous hearts

For receiving is not like giving

For you’ll find that treasure in a child’s gift

Will make your life worth living.
